Attorney Karis Begay was born and raised in Texas where she grew up playing tennis and competed across the United States in various tournaments and eventually landed a full tennis scholarship to the University of North Texas.
She eventually graduated from North Georgia College as a psychology major and then headed to law school at Whitter Law School in Costa Mesa, California. She is licensed in the State of New Mexico, District Court of New Mexico and Navajo Nation Bar since 2003. Karis started off her career as a Qualifying Broker in 2003 in the State of New Mexico working with low income clients to purchase homes under the HUD assistance program. In addition, she began utilizing her law background to assist individuals with filing Section 7 bankruptcy cases.
A conversation with her grandmother prompted Karis to move to the Navajo Nation where she became the Navajo Nation's gaming attorney negotiating the 2015 New Mexico and Navajo Nation gaming compact. Karis also lead the land acquisitions for the tribe and acquired the 30,000 acres Colorado ranch in Westcliffe, CO, 48 apartments in Gallup using NAHASDA funds for low income and exclusively for Navajo families and the 305 acres of Twin Arrows lands in Arizona for the now successful Twin Arrows Navajo Casino.
Karis is now turning her extensive legal talents towards Family Law and Estate Planning! Experienced, compassionate and client-focused, Karis has built on her experience serving and defending disenfranchised and vulnerable populations to serving and defending her clients.
