Though Lara considers herself a "citizen of the world," having been raised overseas and having gained valuable experiences in different countries throughout the world - it's her Rio Grande Valley roots, her Native New Mexican and Mexican-American heritage and her Spanish language that she is most proud of.
Lara obtained her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations, magna cum laude, from Syracuse University in 1994. In 2003 she graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law with her Juris Doctorate degree and began practicing law the same year. Lara worked for years as a prosecutor throughout the State of New Mexico, in the First, Second and Thirteenth Judicial Districts, prosecuting misdemeanor and complex felony crimes including DWI's, domestic violence, homicide, crimes against children, property crimes and other violent crimes.
After leaving the public sector for private practice, Lara opened her own law office and worked as a guardian ad litem and as counsel for parents in child abuse and neglect cases in the Second Judicial District Children's Court. Her experience in law has also included work in criminal defense, personal injury claims, workers compensation and real estate law. Lara is also a licensed Associate Real Estate Broker with Realty One of New Mexico.
Since joining the Genus Law Group, Lara completed coursework in Collaborative Divorce practices, with certification as a Certified Collaborative Divorce Practitioner. As an experienced trial attorney, Lara has handled family law matters throughout the State, working with Genus Law's clients to find workable solutions in family law disputes and other areas of law where clients may need assistance.
